July 2011 – Gantry cranes are ideal for moving heavy loads within a restricted area. Simple electronic controls can be used to lift and move heavy loads all over the working area. Gantry cranes are first and foremost used outside on open industrial sites. The steel plate for the full-length wall beam of this gantry crane was cut to size by De Boer Snijbedrijf.

Bijlsma Hijs- en Heftechniek of Joure design, build and supply standard and customized solutions for heavy-lifting plant and equipment. Bijlsma produced a new gantry crane for Waco Lingen Beton of Bergen op Zoom to replace their forty-year old crane, which was starting to become unreliable and expensive to service. The old crane had a lifting capacity of 16 tons. The new crane can lift two loads of 25 tons. The structure chosen for the crane was a full-length wall beam rather than a lattice, but not a closed structure. The steel plate for the girder, which had a length of 55 metres, was cut to size by De Boer Snijbedrijf. The girder has two windlasses, spans the entire yard and has a jib overhanging the forwarding yard. This means that lorries can be loaded speedily. Moreover, the yard can be used efficiently because no train paths are needed.
